The holidays are still in full swing around here and I can't believe tomorrow is New Year's Eve. I had hoped to write this to you this morning, but the day has just escaped me. Every holiday season my to-do lists seem to get longer and longer. I am sure you can relate. However, despite how busy you are, it is important to set aside some time to strategize for next year.

For the previous 2 parts of this series we talked about: Reflecting on 2016, what has worked and what hasn't. Fast forwarding into to the future to envision your ultimate goals And now it is time to get down to brass tacks.

How are you going to make 2017 amazing? How are you going to be over the top successful? And not just at work, but in all the areas of your life? I created some exercises that will help you think through those questions and begin the first part of a real action plan which we will finish up next time.

Again as you work on the questions below, feel free to post your answers in our Boss Moms Facebook Group

Today's exercises are about laying out important goals or focus areas for 2017. There is also a big section on a yearly theme. I love yearly themes because it helps me make decisions all year long. No matter how hard I try to plan I always go off track - I never seem to complete everything I want to accomplish, and other stuff seems to come up. Having a theme is great, because it gives you something to come back to and help you make decisions. For example, this year my theme is Elevate. And the idea behind it is that I wanted to elevate my business, my finances, and my home life. I wanted to take things to the next level. Whenever I am faced with a big decision - like should I speak at a certain conference, (or should I buy those new shoes) I will ask myself, how does this elevate my life in 2017? If I don’t have a good answer or the answer doesn’t align with my long-term goals I will pass on it. Brainstorm your theme and sit with the ideas. Come back to it. Take some time and figure out what resonates. Setting Your 2017 Goals: Choose one or two things to focus on for each of the following categories.

  1. Personal

  2. Work/Career

  3. Home/Family

  4. Friends/Socially

  5. Education

Bring 2017 into Focus

  1. What do you want to leave behind next year?

  2. What are the things you want to learn next year? Books you want to read? How will you improve yourself in 2017?

  3. What would it look like if 2017 went perfectly? What would you have/be/do?

Now, after looking at your vision for 2017, start to brainstorm on what your yearly theme will be. Write it down in your journal. And then be on the lookout because tomorrow is all about taking these big ideas and themes and then putting an action plan behind them. Hit me up with your comments and let me know what your theme is!
